Catch of the Week Mangrove Snappers
This summer season has provided a wealth of fantastic catches for both Key West light tackle fishing and Key West deep sea fishing. This particular week played host to some truly exhilarating fishing, as well as some of the best catches of the summer. It was during one of our charters on Coolwater that around 20 mangrove snappers were caught, a large haul that was more than enough to see its place as the Key West Catch of the Week. While Mangrove snappers are caught quite regularly out on the waters of Key West, it's not often that so many are brought in on one catch, which is a surprising feat for all fishermen involved.
The Mangrove snapper is one of the myriad of variations of snappers that can be found within much of the Atlantic waters, particularly in those surrounding Key West and all the way down to Brazil. Those traveling on our Coolwater charter were likely able to spot them relatively easily due to their greyish-red color, which is easy to identify when set against the clear blue waters of Key West. Once caught, Mangrove snappers are also one of the most delicious species of fish.
When taking our Coolwater charter out for some Key West light tackle fishing, mangrove snappers are high on the list of possible fish that you might catch, given their propensity for being caught with light tackle. However, it's absolutely vital that you are cunning and smart when fishing for mangrove snappers, as they are one of the more hesitant species of fish around and won't easily bite into a lure. In order to catch them, it's recommended that you simply dangle the tackle in the water, as they will scurry away if too much is shown. It's clear that the snatchers of the 20 or so mangrove snappers caught this week knew exactly what they were doing.
One of the primary reasons for such a large number of mangrove snappers being caught in one charter trip is likely due to the fact that it's nearly impossible to spot a lone mangrove snapper. If you catch one, you have the benefit of knowing that there are likely much more in the nearby vicinity. This is due largely to the fact that, while they can be found in a number of different habitats, they often travel in substantial schools.
The weather here in Key West has generally been wonderful this past week, with mostly sunny skies and warmer temperatures, helping to facilitate great fishing opportunities throughout the week. What's even better is that these prime weather conditions are looking to extend well into August, which gives you a fantastic opportunity to drop on down to Key West and try out our Coolwater charter for yourself. If all goes well, there's a chance that you can hook a surprising catch and find your picture as the next winner of the Key West Catch of the Week. Finally, congratulations to everyone involved in the enormous 20 mangrove snapper haul!
