Key West Catch of the Week - July 14, 2014
The 4th of July has come and gone and the height of the summer season is now upon us. Once again, this week in Key West deep sea fishing has provided tons of fantastic fishing, as well as some truly amazing catches. While there were quite a number of surprising catches throughout the week, none is more shocking than the 12 Yellowtail snappers caught by Rick, Deanna, Scott and Julie. These colorful fishes were of a wide variety of sizes and were all caught during one of our fishing charters.
Yellowtail Snapper
While you may be shocked to see such as high number of snappers caught on one occasion, the reason for this is due to the fact that Yellowtail snappers are commonly seen traveling in rather substantial-sized schools. It's also important to note that these mid-summer days are when they are in their largest groups, feeding off shrimp and worms. Like most of those that go out on one of our fishing charters, Rick, Deanna, Scott and Julie weren't expecting to run across a whole school of yellowtail snappers, but they quickly proved that they were up to the task by catching a whole dozen.
Though Yellowtail snappers have appeared all along the Atlantic coastline, they are typically found anywhere from Brazil to Florida and are most abundant in the Key West area. Divers and those that are deep sea fishing are most likely to find Yellowtail snappers swimming among the vast amounts of coral reef in Key West, as they tend to be drawn there. While it is possible for these snappers to grow to well over 30 inches in length, they are typically around 15 inches and under.
While yellowtail snappers can be found in large quantities within the crystal clear waters of the Key West, that's not all that you can expect to find when deep sea fishing on one of our charters. You'll be excited to know that there are a plethora of different types of species that can make for some wholly unexpected and surprising catches. No matter what amount of experience you have with fishing, Key West is the best destination in the world if you're looking for a sure catch.
When you're not staring out into the breathtaking expanse that lies before you, it's almost a certainty that you will have some sort of species of fish tugging at your line, whether it be a King Mackerel, Swordfish, Tuna or even a Marlin. If you find that it's taking longer to catch a fish than you had anticipated, simply ask for a little advice from our Captain and you will be on your way to snagging lots of fish in no time.
It's rare to find catches of half a dozen fish by one group in a single charter, let alone a hefty dozen, so, once again, congrats to Rick, Deanna, Scott and Julie for staying focused and determined enough to snatch a staggering 12 Yellowtail snappers and land atop the plethora of catches this week to earn the Key West catch of the week.
