September Fishing Report
Today, I guided a charter aboard the Outcast out to the Atlantic reef. The conditions were ideal for fishing along the reef south of Key West; the wind was blowing out of the east while the current was also west-bound. My clients bagged their limit of Yellowtail Snapper weighing between two to four pounds. We also caught three Mutton Snapper averaging around twelve pounds apiece. One lucky angler hauled in a thirty-five pound Black Grouper.
Yesterday, Captain Mike Ledrew headed offshore on the Coolcast with a group to fish for Dolphin (Mahi Mahi) in about two hundred and fifty feet of water. After Mike spotted a flock of diving frigate birds, the party caught a slew of nice sized Mahi (twenty-five). The largest catch tipped the scales at thirty pounds and the schoolie-size fish ranged between five and ten pounds. So, if you are interested in some deep sea action, know that Dolphin is becoming active near Key West.
We’ve also seen plenty of success fishing at the wrecks with live bait and chumming the saltwater flats for sharks.
Good anglin’,
